Tutoring/Advising

We want our students to succeed. Therefore, academic support outside of the classroom is one of the many student support services offered at Orleans Technical Institute. When a student is in need of special help or is not grasping the technical aspects of a course, s/he can schedule time with one of our trained tutors. Tutors are available to help with everything from quick fixes to long-term strategies for academic success. One-on-one support is available to help students deal with any concerns that may interfere with training. The Student Services staff also provides career guidance and academic advising to maximize each student’s ability to benefit from training.

Student Council

The Student Council functions as an open forum—a two-way conduit of information and ideas—between students and the school administrators. The meetings focus on identifying issues and solutions that will better help students as they prepare for their careers.

Field Experience/Internship

During training in our Building Trades programs, field experiences may be arranged with a variety of community-based organizations. This effort benefits students by providing practical curriculum projects in actual community settings. An example of a field experience program is Habitat for Humanity.

During training in our Court Reporting and Human Services programs, students complete an internship in their field. The purpose is to give students an opportunity to gain real world experience and consider the various career avenues within their field.

Seminar for Success

The staff at Orleans Tech realizes that not all roadblocks to a student’s success are academic. With this in mind, all first-year court reporting students are required to attend our Seminar for Success class where students address non-academic stumbling blocks. The students are introduced to techniques from goal-setting to positive communication skills to overcoming test anxiety. The Seminar for Success class is an important part of our student support services and many students have benefited from the seminars.

Services for Individuals with Disabilities

The Orleans Technical Institute school facility meets all regulations required by the Americans with Disability Act. Student Services interviews are designed to identify needs of individuals with disabilities and strategies for feasible accommodations are arranged for by the Director of Student Services. Due to the nature of construction trades training, individuals with disabilities which may cause harm to themselves or to others during the instructional training process, are not considered for admission and are advised accordingly.
